Four steps, one place

No more juggling a converter, an audio editor and the Yoto website.

  1. Import

Paste a YouTube link or choose an audio file on your computer.

  2. Trim

Cut the intro or the credits. The original is always kept.

  3. Compose

Create a playlist, add your tracks and give each one its little icon.

  4. Listen

Pick the player in the bedroom and start the playlist from the app.

See it work

Paste a link, get the song

Paste a public YouTube video or playlist, or add a file from your computer. The audio is downloaded on your computer and waits in your library, ready to listen to.

Read the import guide

Animation of the app: a YouTube link is pasted into Import audio and Import is pressed; the task appears under Activity, downloads, then is ready in the library, and Listen opens the song in the Library.

Keep just the right part

Drag the two handles past the intro and the credits, and click the waveform to listen from any spot. Apply keeps your original and creates the trimmed version for your playlists.

Learn to trim your audio

Animation of the trim dialog: the start and end handles are dragged inward, a click on the waveform moves the playhead, the selection plays from there, then Apply prepares the trimmed version.

Straight onto their Yoto

Choose Add media, tick a song from your library and the version to send. Once Yoto has it, it appears in the playlist; click its empty icon slot to give it its little pixel icon. Changes are saved to your Yoto account as you go: there is no publish button.

Build your Yoto playlist

Animation of the playlist editor: Add media opens a dialog, a trimmed song is ticked and added; once sent to Yoto it appears as a new track, its empty icon slot opens Choose an icon, an icon is used, and the playlist shows Saved on Yoto.

One parent, a toddler and a handful of songs

Yoto has a wonderful catalogue. But my two-year-old had a much shorter wish list: a few favourite nursery rhymes, on repeat. The ones we loved were on YouTube, and often not in our language. Yoto lets families bring their own audio and opens its API to developers, so I brought every step into one app.

Frequently asked questions

Is this an official Yoto app?

No. YotoMediaManager is an independent app, built on the API Yoto makes available to developers. You sign in with your own Yoto account, on Yoto’s website.

Is a mobile version for iOS or Android planned?

No, a mobile version is not planned. Importing audio from YouTube is central to the app. App Store and Google Play restrictions on media downloading prevent us from offering this feature there in its current form.

Where are my files stored?

Your library stays on your computer. Only the audio you add to a playlist is sent to your Yoto account.

Do I need a Yoto account?

Not to import and trim audio. To create playlists and play them on a player, yes.

Are my originals changed when I trim?

Never. Trimming creates a version next to the original, which you can export at any time.

Is the app finished?

It is still being validated: some combinations of players and computers remain to be tested. The app tells you when a feature is not available, and offers new versions as soon as they are published.

Is the app free?

Yes. YotoMediaManager is free to download and use, with source code available under GPL-3.0-or-later. The Yoto player and Make Your Own cards are sold separately.

How do I put my playlist on a Make Your Own card?

YotoMediaManager creates and edits the playlist on your Yoto account. Then link it to a Make Your Own card with the official Yoto app. The getting-started guide explains this last step.

Fill their Yoto with their favourite songs.
